Information for project champions (ZOO based ATA team membership).
I’m not sure if project champion is a term you use but for me and in this context it is someone on the ground at your zoological organisation whose kind of spearheading your teams involvement with their ATA memberships. There’s not too much involved here just being a liaison for me, giving me updates every now and again and helping get everyone set up with the forums etc…
Forums
First thing we want team members to do is start their individual training project in the forums.
It’s likely beneficial for the project champion to start this of and get their own project going … all the information about how to do this can be found in the forum post here.

The Reason I suggest doing this is so that you understand what is involved and can help the team along with any questions they have. There is also a number of things you can do to facilitate this process for your team.
- Consider the email account used to login.
- What can be a good idea is creating a new email with gmail. For example: – your.organization’s.name.@gmail.com. This way all the forum notifications get sent here and they don’t “clog up” someones inbox. I.e. this email is set up specifically for the forums.
- Below is information about how to set up a new gmail account
- https://support.google.com/mail/answer/56256?hl=en
- Set up a YouTube account for the team.
- All keepers can use the same YouTube account.
- If you set the privacy settings of each video to unlisted you can store as many videos as you want and no one will be able to see them but you can still embed them in the forums. This is all explained in the forum post below
- https://animaltrainingacademy.com/forums/topic/creating-a-youtube-channel-and-embedding-in-the-forums/
- What can also be beneficial is just printing of some instructions to hang by the computer at work with login credentials for email and Youtube [Ryan is working on a template that you can use for this purpose].
How to get the ball rolling.
As mentioned above as the project champion if you could spend some time checking out the forums and understanding how they work that would be great. Then next step is to communicate with the team members involved about what is required from them. I will list this out below.
- Get their first post in the forums
- The aim of the first post is not so much about demonstrating “amazing training skills” but rather just to get it done and get used to how the forums look, feel and work. Below is all the information about how to do this.

- And the following link provides a great example of this …

- Next we have to get the team filming their training and getting their first video in the forums … I will embed a video below showcasing a great example of this …
I hope this all makes sense … please let me know if you have any questions about absolutely anything !
